Personal Jesus

Something happened on January 11, 2011, that really affected my staff and I in a wonderful way. It is amazing how God will change little things in our lives that are so habitual they’ve become permanent. But that’s why He is such a wonderful God. Before the crack of dawn on this momentous day, I felt that God wanted me to watch a video that had become popular on YouTube, called, “Double Rainbow”. For nearly an hour I watched as a man who calls himself Yosemite Bear openly gave his childlike exclamations and cries at the wonder of seeing a double rainbow in his own front yard.

Suddenly, God said to me, “Richard, you need to feel the awe and inspiration that Yosemite Bear experienced at the wonder of seeing My natural phenomenon.” In my second hour of watching the same video, I too began to catch the thrill of his childlike exclamations. By the third hour, I was captivated by the overcast sky, as little threads of sunlight continued to pierce through the pillow-like clouds. I had found myself in wonder of God’s beautiful phenomenon in the sky–something that, in my busy daily life, I would have completely ignored.

My entire being had become filled with the awesomeness of our Creator. This godly wonder stayed with me while attending a meeting at the Rose Bowl, during which I found myself talking to an adult who was somewhat mentally impaired. Yet his childlike expressions were fascinating to me. I couldn’t comprehend the wonderment that seemed to be overcoming my senses.

The next day my family and I asked the Lord to lead us to a Mexican restaurant. Out of the hundred, or so, restaurants in this densely populated area, my son found one on the internet that he felt God was leading us to. As we entered a questionable neighborhood, we were surprised to discover that the restaurant had the appearance of a real jewel of culinary arts from old México. After three exquisite hours of tastes and carefree laughter, we all realized, in a fresh new way, how the native Mexican sauces unlocked a culinary experience that we would always remember.

Wow! The simple things in life can be truly wonderful! But, there was more to come. Soon we found ourselves at Universal City Walk, where we admired future skydivers practicing in a makeshift wind tunnel. After about thirty minutes, the trainer began instructing the students to slow down their movements and let the wind do the work. In an instant, an incredible revelation regarding our family’s journey of working in the movie industry hit all of us at once. God was telling us that He will do the work if we’ll just slow down and simply react to His divine favor.

Right after that, my wife, I, and our three children experienced amazing insights into our personal family relationships with each other. At the end of some long discourses we all sat in silence as we contemplated the wonder of our love for each other, and God, who had put us together as a family unit. Suddenly the Universal Studio P.A. system played the Industrial Rock song, “Personal Jesus”. I suddenly burst into tears because I realized that my stiff, formal relationship with God was becoming personal and wonderful. I glanced around at my family members and they were just as moved as I. How marvelous it is to have the God of the universe take your whole family on an experience of divine love!

I was amazed when I discovered that the song, “Personal Jesus”, was recorded live in 1989– at the same Rose Bowl we had just visited! The concert was called “101” and the grand Christian event that was being planned at the Rose Bowl is to occur on 11/11/11. This future event is called “A Line In The Sand”. The name reminded me of a saying written by an ancient prophet concerning prophecies, that they would be “here a little, there a little, line upon line, precept upon precept.” That is the best description that I could possibly think of describing the events occurring around me, and what they were beginning to point to. Something even more wonderful than a double rainbow, (which I believe signifies double promises being fulfilled in all of our lives) was about to occur.

Earlier I’d seen a vision that I believe was given to me by God. The Lord told me to step into a baptismal pool and be cleaned. Wanting to impress God, I stepped into the pool and scrubbed myself very hard, and soon the water was gray with dirt. I stepped out of the water feeling really clean. But when I thought I was done, the Lord asked me to step back into the baptismal waters, which were now clean, and to wash again.

This second time the water became even dirtier than it was before. This discouraged me so I washed even harder. I thought I was sure to be clean after the second dip. But then, God asked me again to go into the waters again. I became even more confused as I stepped into the waters and they became even darker. But as I scrubbed away, I was actually becoming happy. Even though the waters were an ugly dirty gray, I was kind of enjoying the process. When I stepped out of the waters I was certain I was finally done.

The Lord then told me, “The water that was there couldn’t get you this clean unless you went through the first washings”.

“You mean it wasn’t how long I bathed, how hard I scrubbed?”, I asked.

“No.”, the Lord said.

“Lord, what is the secret?”

“The first one is, if you enjoy the washing, you get cleaner. If you hate it, you don’t get clean.”

(I thought I must be really clean because I thoroughly enjoyed that last one.)

The Lord went on. “The second point is, the water must be just as clean when you leave as when you went in. Yet it can never become clean until the water turns black. When the water becomes totally black, you will know you are close to finally reaching cleanliness. Richard, this time when you go into the water, rejoice as if it is already pitch black. The blacker the better, because My blood covers all sin. Then when you go into the water again it will be clean and you will be clean.”

“I’m not telling you that this is difficult. That is not the purpose of this vision. The truth is that it’s very easy to be good with God. The only thing that makes it hard is how you respond to God’s cleansing. This is why new Christians, when they first get saved and confess Me, Jesus, as Lord, they are perfect; perfectly clean, washed in one washing.”

“Richard, you have served me for 43 years and picked up a lot of dirt, layers and layers upon you. You say, ‘Lord, I would be all right if all of those people hadn’t influenced me.’ But none of the dirt that you are getting rid of is from other people. None of the dirt was put on you by others. You collected it, only you! When you realize this, the bath will become a whole lot more fun and the water, pitch black.”

This vision brought together to me a clear picture of how all of the God events in my life, (and the God events of the last few days) were leading me towards a successful, and perfect, future road to travel upon. At the Rose Bowl preliminary planning event, my son, Sunny, asked everyone present to do a physical prophetic act. He asked everyone to take out a small pocket mirror, or use the reflective face of an iphone. He then asked, “What do you see?” Everyone replied, “An image of myself.” He said, “God is asking us to verbally remove any personal agendas we might have in coming to the Rose Bowl on 11/11. Place, instead, the person of Jesus. May only His agenda be reflected from all of us.” Wow! I guess that’s what it’s all about.
