An Adventure In Bangkok

Last month, I was part of a worship team that went to Thailand. It totally happened at the last minute- we got a call one week before the event we would be ministering at. The group asking us to participate said to us, “God told us you are supposed to be part of the ‘Carnival of Joy’, and we will pay for your trip.” The Carnival Of Joy is a big event in Thailand where the whole country is invited to experience God’s love and joy for their country. I was like, “Yeah! Give me an hour to pack and I’m ready to go!!! ” I love being on one of God’s big adventures. It is so fun!

The whole time we were there, so many miracles happened. One miracle I did not expect happened on our day off. It was such a big surprise! Thailand is famous for their spas, so I said, “Ladies, we have to get pedicures while we are here.” We chose to go to a spa next to our hotel.

As we sat in the big white comfortable seats, a very beautiful older lady approached me and started to work on my nails. I asked her if she was the owner. She laughed, “No, I use to be a disco singer and my brother was the DJ, but that was long ago.” I asked her if she was married. In a sad tone she replied, “No, I’m not and all my friends are married to Americans and live such good lives. Anyone I ever really cared about has moved.” Then her voice began to choke up.

I continued to encourage her. “You are very pretty, I’m sure there are a lot of guys who are interested in you.” She replied, “None of the men I know are very nice. I wouldn’t want to marry any of them.” I told her, “But Jesus can turn even mean men into the best men. I’ve seen that happen to a lot of guys back home.”

“Really?” she asked. ” Sure,” I said, “God will give you the best life. He’s made my life so good and given me the best of friends. You can meet so many good guys in church.”

Her eyes lit up like fireflies! I asked her, “Shall we talk to Jesus now?”

“Yes,” she answered and held my hands tightly. She repeated after me, “Jesus, please come into my heart and make every thing better.” She said it so sincerely and was weeping. Then she whispered to me, “Please don’t leave.” I replied, “I won’t leave this country without connecting you with a good church.” We were both so excited.

I met a pastor that evening and told him what had happened that day. He said, “If she is right next door to this hotel, let’s go meet her now!” She was so happy when she saw us and said, “Look, I’ve got chicken skin!” We all laughed–Chicken skin is thai for “goose bumps”.

It’s so great how God works in unexpected ways!

  • Thanks for letting me know about this post, for some reason I stopped getting these in my email. I’m so glad we got to talk after worship. I knew being in worship would help some things fall back into place.

  • WOW! Misty

That’s awesome!!! I’m really joyful when I read this letter. ^_^
And I’m sure that you were very joyful on that day. And in heaven, angles were joyful, too.

    Thanks for sharing.

    God bless you.

  • Misty,
Excellent story, great to see God working. The people I have met there warm my heart. I was in Thailand during the same time as you. God has been working on a man there that I am doing business with. He is officially a Buddhist, but has been asking me about Christianity. So far he is the most interested person in investing in my next Christian movie, isn’t that interesting how God works. Chicken skin, I’ll have to ask him about that one.
