The way God works, blows my mind! His plans are so cool. Last Monday my dad and I set out, directly after our weekly morning meeting, to the post office. My passport expires in October, and I was preparing to send it to the passport agency for renewal. I had an expectant sense that I would be traveling before the year is out, but I wasn’t sure about the timing.
As we (my dad and I) left the church, he mentioned that we shouldn’t do anything unless the Lord says to do it, including passport renewal. Passport renewal seemed like such an obvious, “Get it done right away” that I didn’t even think about asking the Lord if I should get it done yet. In my desire to please the Lord, I said, “Yes. God knows what we should do. Let’s ask Him.”
Dad asked God with the casting of the lot, “Should we get Rocki’s passport renewed?” “Should we expedite the renewal?” “Should we get the passport photo’s?” We also got confirming scriptures, and each time God said, “No.” This didn’t make to much sense to me; so often, God’s ways may not seem to make sense in our tiny brains. My feelings were: “if this is what He wants, then who am I to think any different?” Dad knew that there was a good reason for the delay. He was right.
Recently, I was at a prophetic session for youth. There was a nine year old, girl who prophesied to me about singing in a band before thousands of people, and the people would say, “Wow!” This young girl knew nothing about the band that I’m in, or that I sing for that matter. I knew that she spoke the word of the Lord. But, here’s the amazing part: after the prophetic session, my mom and Dad and the entire band were invited to sing in Thailand, in one and a half weeks time! All travel and accommodations paid! It was so sudden, much like God.
Now the instruction to wait for my passport renewal made total sense. If I had sent out my passport, I wouldn’t have it in time to go to Thailand. I would’ve missed the trip, unable to leave the country. But, God saw my future. He knew that the simple decision to wait on getting my passport renewed would be the choice between a prophetic word fulfilled in Thailand and waiting until the opportunity came around another time. It was amazing, because I had just been talking to the band the week before about the desire to travel. God has now made the way!
